A. So you've come into a bunch of money...time to repair your credit. First thing I would do is get a copy of your credit reports and find out what you need to settle. Secondly, don't deal with the collection agencies unless the original creditor absolutely won't talk to you. I would recommend paying off your open credit cards first. Then tuck them away and don't use them. This will take care of the "%available credit" part of your credit score" The next part is cleaning up your delinquint accounts. Call your creditors and see if they will settle for 50% or less of your delinquent balance. Demand that you get a copy of the settlement in writing BEFORE you send them a check. Make sure that any settlement agreement you reach includes… [cont.]

Do credit repair services work? Which is the best agency to go through?
Q. I have paid for alll of my old collection accounts and I'm just waiting for them to drop off of my credit reports. I've been looking into credit repair service on line and wondering if they can actually help. All of the items on my reports are actually MINE and I did actually owe them, but they are all FINALLY paid off. Is there any hope to get them removed quickly?

How can i open my own credit repair company?
Q. I am a mortgage loan officer and always send customers who have credit issues to a credit company to clean off their credit. I know people can do this on their own, but many do not have the knowledge and time to do it. I have also cleaned customers credit myself including mine and my wife`s and friends and family members but i have been doing it for free. How do i go about it in opening my own credit repair company? Where do i start?

A. I wish I could provide an answer to this, a REAL answer. I was in mortgage too for a number of years and got to watch SEVERAL opportunities like the ones you are describing pass me by. Although I would probably open up shop for myself if I had this answer ;-) ... I have another product that you could easily incorporate into your current business AND provide a value that no-one else in Real Estate offers. Is there any way for a credit repair company to set up an account to pull credit for its clients?
Q. I am trying to start a credit repair company but I have not found a company to go through to pull credit. All the companies seem to only work with mortgage companies. HELP!
Asked by Garrett C - Mon Jan 14 16:42:08 2008 - - 2 Answers - 2 Comments

A. i agree with the poster above, why not have the clients pull their own accounts (they can do this for free three times a year). Be ware however, that credit repair is a hard market to serve...most often they want YOU and your company to be magicians... Is there another kind of business that you can run on the side...I really think that this business will be more trouble than it is worth. With that said, I was of the impression that anyone can pull anyone's credit with the subject's permission. Work with a lawyer and have them create a consent form for you. I just checked my credit report and it was pulled literally 12 times in the past 7 months. 9 of these pulls were 'soft pulls' meaning that I did not initiate any of them. Saying that to… [cont.]

How can a person check a credit repair company's legitimacy?
Q. I have this project for economics class and I can't seem to find the answer. Like how can you know if a credit repair company is real or just a scam.
Asked by Lizzie H - Wed May 27 10:13:53 2009 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments

A. They're pretty much all scams; only time and responsible money management can repair a credit history. For your project, go to the websites of the credit reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax, TransUnion) and see what they say. Also, check out the website of your State's Attorney General or Consumer Protection office; there is a wealth of good information there also. Good luck on your project!

A. I am a loan originator and deal with people who have bad credit on a daily basis. I would suggest getting a copy of your credit report. Then making sure that there are no duplicates or closed accounts affecting your score. If there are you can call those places that have been dawdling in taking them off your credit report. Pay things on time and try to get rid of as much revolving debt as possible. If your credit is bad now you may need to wait a couple months until you can correct all of the above problems and bring your credit score up to where it should be. I hope I helped to answer your question if you have any more concerning your credit scores feel free to contact me through my yahoo email. P.S. A credit repair company can… [cont.]

Where can I get a personal loan for credit repair?
Q. I would like a reputible company, I am trying to repair my credit for a home loan.
Asked by Panda - Tue Dec 20 20:24:22 2005 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you get a personal loan from a local bank and make your payments on time your credit score would go up over time. If you already have bad credit consider a secured loan (requires collateral of some sort). However, the positive factors from this loan would take some time (6 months to a year) to actually improve your credit score. If you are just thinking of getting a loan for quick improvement then do not do it, as getting a personal loan right before applying for a home loan might show that you are over extended.

A. Federal law, and sometimes state law, controls. What they do is try to box in the credit reporting services into a corner so that they have to remove negative ratings. They write a letter to the reporting companies disputing the amounts. If the company cannot obtain verification from the creditor within 30 days, then the reporting company MUST remove the negative rating. If they do obtain verification, you are hosed.

Q. Im looking for a credit repair company to help repair my credit and raise my credit score. There are many companies online but I want to choose a reputable company and do not know how to make sure they are legitimately a good company. Any suggestions?
Asked by sasha - Tue Jan 12 16:39:03 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Forget credit repair companies. Most are pure scam. Even the legit ones only do what you can easily do yourself. There are no special letters or secret procedures to clean up your credit. Get a copy of your credit report (AnnualCreditReport.com). If there are errors, dispute them with the credit bureau. Legitimate negative items age off your credit report 7-1/2 years from the date of first deficiency. The older the item, the less impact on your score. If any of your derogatory items are single entry items, like medical or utility bills, you can try to negotiate pay for delete agreements (you pay $x and they remove the item) with the collection agencies. This doens't work for regularly reported items like credit cards and… [cont.]

A. You might start by doing as much reading as you can on some of the sites listed in my profile. Reading and understanding the FDCPA, FCRA, etc. can be a bit hard at first, especially the FCRA, but it does get easier. Kudo's to you for wanting to repair your credit yourself instead of paying someone else to do it. There are a few great "free" do it yourself credit repair sites on the web that have many active members. Many members on those sites have been there and done that. (I prefer the one listed in my profile the most) Never pay a site for information you can find for free.

A. Why don't you practice repairing your own credit... if you are successful you can advertise your services for other people. Anything a credit repair business can do the consumer can do for free. Negotiate with creditors for more favorable terms to get caught up on payments and disputing incorrect entries on your credit report. That is about all there is to it.

I only used them for 3 months because I was tired of paying them. It was a mistake I should have at least stayed 6 months.
